Network Systems Engineer

The Network Systems Engineer is an IT Infrastructure position focused on the technical administration and escalated support services. The primary area of specialization will be dependent on the candidate to provide advanced technical expertise within a Microsoft Server/Hyper-V environment for the design of system infrastructure, including the HP hardware platforms.  The Network Systems Engineer performs a wide variety of installation, configuration and upgrading of servers and related hardware and software in a LAN, WAN and stand-alone environment. Other areas of responsibility will include solving interoperability issues, compliance, support and escalation contact for vendor-provided services, platform architecture and sustainment. The Network Systems Engineer will be asked to investigate, diagnose, test and repair OS and hardware-related issues.  Experience with Communications and Automation Technologies (ICAT), Intelligent Buildings Solutions (IBS) and Information Transportation Systems (ITS) an asset.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for Server Management and Administration and Storage, including platforms, architecture, security and backup; Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) Administration, including configuration, monitoring and reporting
• Ensure applicable support agreements are in place to manage asset repair or retirement, through the identification and recording of current assets and asset lifecycle
• Manage and maintain platform-based systems, including virtual file servers, Windows Operating systems and Active Directory management
• Collaborate on designing, configuring, installing and supporting MS Windows environments as well as ensure that new releases and patches are tested and on-boarded with best practices
• Work with Internal IT teams to meet Service Level Agreement goals as it relates to Availability, Capacity, Configuration and Change
• Coordinate and control services for system for system patching, upgrades and enhancements
• Collaborate with senior team members, contributing to the daily operations of both fixed and virtual environments
• Develop and maintain documentation pertaining to administration and technical management
• Report on operations using functional audits, performance monitoring and capacity planning
• Manage and operate data center switching environment between corporate data centers

Qualifications

• Related college diploma or university degree
• Minimum of five years of work experience in a similar role
• Required certifications include: MCSE, Hyper-V
• Strong knowledge of SAN storage/management, HP and 3PAR SAN an asset
• Experience with HP Servers / HP Blade Servers
• Strong knowledge of network technologies and operations best practices
• Working knowledge of current network, protocols and standards, including: TCP/IP, OSPF, VLANs and subnetting; Cisco CCNA a minimum requirement
• Affluent abilities with core applications, including MS Office, Google Apps, Visio, MS Project
• End-user and integration experience with network management, monitoring and operations tools, such as: Microsoft Active Directory, Network Access Controls, DHCP Services, TACACS+
• Exceptional team player with a customer service driven attitude
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening and questioning skills
• Strong documentation skills
• Effective written and oral communications skills

This role may call for occasional evening and weekend support, as well as being available for on call standby and periodic travel if/when required.

This is a permanent position located in downtown Toronto with an annual salary of $85,000.00 plus bonus.
