System Admin

Provide technical support for Windows 2003 servers, Linux Fedora 12, XP pro, Win7, Vista, and Mac operating systems and hardware (including 7/24 pager support)
- Be a subject matter expert in: Hardware Infrastructure, Network Infrastructure and Software design, as it relates to infrastructure
- Manage Multiple Priorities concurrently, applying good judgement in prioritizing and balancing activities and time allocation
- Demonstrates Superior Decision Making and Critical Thinking. Knowledge of tools and techniques for effective use of a broad range of factors, assumptions, frameworks and perspectives when anticipating, recognizing, and resolving problems

Specifically:
- Ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of corporate servers to meet business demands
- Prioritize and respond to service requests
- Perform file system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures
- Monitor and test system performance and provide analysis and reports
- Participate in the design and review of new server systems, applications, and hardware
- Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches
- Conduct capacity planning as needed
- Recommend and execute modifications to server environment in order to improve efficiency, Maintenance of systems administration documentation, administration policies and practices
- Participate in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure system security

Must Have Skills:
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that sees things through to completion. Attention to detail is important, as is the keen desire and ability to learn new technologies. Some key skills include:
- 4+ years of progressive experience in system administration
- Advanced knowledge of Windows 2003/2008 Server and Active Directory, as well as a theoretical and practical level of experience with distributed client server systems technologies including operating systems, sub-systems, enterprise services, database technologies, network infrastructure and desktop interfaces
- Candidates with at least some knowledge and interest in UNIX or Linux based operating systems will be given preference
- Proven ability in developing and deploying enterprise system administration practices and procedures, such as batch files, Group Policy and general scripting (PERL, PowerShell, etc.)
- Thorough understanding of system management best practices such as backup, performance monitoring, capacity planning and security
- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP networking, relational databases and client server computing models
- Proactive approach to system maintenance and problem avoidance
- Superior analytical and problem solving skills
- A well-developed understanding of the need for operational policies and procedures
- Written Communications–Ability to produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought and orderliness of presentation
- Oral Communications–Ability to express oneself and communicate with others verbally; recognizing that verbal communication is more than just language – it includes tone, style and structure
- Interpersonal Relationships–Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for working with individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner
- The ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
- A College diploma or University degree or relevant job experience in Computer Science or Engineering
- MCSE Certification (strong asset)
- Ability to work in team and with minimum supervision
- Good sense of planning and organization
