Purpose

Working as part of the Network Services team under the guidance of the Director, Infrastructure & Technical Services, the Network Administrator is accountable for the proper planning, operation and maintenance of the company’s data and voice network infrastructure (traditional and VOIP) at various locations within Canada although travel outside the GTA would seldom be required.  In addition, the Network Administrator liaises closely with our client’s partners and vendors for outsourced technologies in our Canada-wide stores, wide-area network and wireless providers.  Currently, the company uses many technologies from diverse vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, 3Com, Nortel, etc.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and maintain network-based technologies and associated IOS/operating systems
• Troubleshoot and resolve network-based incidents and outages on a priority basis
• Manage all network system backup and restore protocols
• Document network problems and resolution for future reference
• Enhance the performance of existing network technologies through performance tuning
• Liaise with vendors for costing, procurement and service level management purposes
• Ensure that all network systems are properly configured and remain secure
• Provide support to the company’s wireless and telco needs
• Maintain and audit firewall rules
• Anticipate communications/network issues and implement preventative measures
• Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating procedures to optimize network availability
• Maintain confidentiality with regards to confidential information stored or accessed on the network

• Maintain the security & high availability of data & voice resources at all home office, data centres and stores across Canada
• Respond to outages in timely fashion in a fast-paced 24x7 environment
• Protect and maintain a high-level of security on the company’s networks
• Participate to the execution of projects on time and on budget
• Achieve a high level of customer satisfaction from internal and Retail clients
• Actively participate in the organization’s internal controls programs 

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5+ years practical hands-on experience with Cisco products and operating systems such as the CatOS, IOS and VOIP solutions.
• A minimum of 2 years practical hands-on experience with Juniper products and JunOS
• Solid understanding of wiring technologies for data and voice applications
• In-depth knowledge of switching, routing and firewall principles
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced, high-energy 24x7 environment
• Ability to multitask
• Strong ability to adapt to change
• Able to articulate complex directions in plain language as this position will interface to store employees across the country in need of assistance or to executive-level employees while travelling abroad
• CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE certifications would be a strong asset but not strictly necessary if backed up by a matching amount of experience
• Exposure to ITIL would be an asset
• Given the nature of the role, the ideal candidate will be a self-starter and detail-oriented individual
