Network Specialist / Network Engineer

The Network Specialist / Network Engineer is an IT Infrastructure position focused on the technical administration and 2nd to 3rd level support for all network support services.  The primary area of responsibilities includes supporting all “Network related services”.  This area of focus also requires similar expertise as with the other Engineers, in both LAN/WAN services.  This includes expertise and experience with WiFi, Virtual and Physical Switching environments, ITIL Processes, escalations/incident response, traffic monitoring and troubleshooting, software monitoring continuity.  The Network Specialist / Network Engineer performs a wide variety of installation, configuration and upgrading of switches, routers, appliances and related software and software in a LAN, WAN and stand-alone environment.  The Network Specialist / Network Engineer will have subject matter expertise in security platforms and voice over IP services (VoIP).  The tasks will include the integration, diagnose, test and repair hardware and OS related issues on various platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Work within an understanding of a network design and project management framework to design, plan, test, implement and integrate various LAN/WAN systems, including: network switches and routers, virtual interfaces, MPLS traffic management and Internet routing services;
  • Coordinate and control services for efficient sustainment activities of the operating environment for all VoIP connectivity services. Maintain regular programs for system patching, upgrades, etc;
  • Collaborate in a cross functional role, contributing to the daily operations of infrastructure wide, local and metro area networks, Internet services that affect services;
  • Coordinate resources and provide hands on technical expertise as a point of escalation to the Client Services Team to diagnose and resolve incidents and problems;
  • Develop, deliver and maintain documentation pertaining to administration, end-user support and technical management for associated platforms supported;
  • Report on operational audits and performance monitoring;
  • Maintain updated records of service catalogues, inventory, diagrams, specifications and configuration item data in document repositories and the computer management database.
  • Effectively use ITIL processes for all required changes and requisitions.
  • Effectively use and provide support for ancillary services that are supporting components for the working environment including Network Access Controls, Monitoring, IPAM services, and firewall policies.

Qualifications

  • A related college diploma or university degree;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ of work experience in a similar role;
  • Proven experience with established standards such as BICSI, ITIL, PMI.  Certifications an asset;
  • Required certifications include: CCNA or BCNE, MCSE (or equivalents)
  • Cisco CCNP Certification
  • Cisco UC and Call-Manager Certification
  • Strong collaboration and synergy with team player with a customer service driven attitude.
  • Efficiencies with use of computer systems.
  • Strong knowledge of current hardware, protocols, and standards, including:
    • Cisco  switching platforms
    • Brocade / Foundry, Cisco, Aruba, APC UPS Solutions
    • Solarwinds or equivalent management/troubleshooting product
  • TCP/IP, VLANs, VoIP Protocols, G7.x codecs
  • Affluent abilities with core applications, including MS Office, Google Apps, Visio, MS Project
  • End user and integration experience with network management, monitoring and operations tools

This is permanent position located in downtown Toronto with an annual salary of $85,000.00 – $90,000.00 plus bonus and benefits
